This symposium includes presentations from a diverse panel of global industry and academic experts who will explore various issues associated with science-based nutrient recommendations (e.g. nutrient reference values, government guidelines, health claims, professional society recommendations, etc).

The session will begin with a review of the current state of EPA/DHA recommendations, then will feature a Dietary Reference Intake (DRI) veteran advising on expectations for the upcoming macronutrients DRI review in the USA, followed by three case studies demonstrating how research findings have been translated into new recommendations, or, how to use research to protect existing recommendations.

The symposium begins with an overview of research into omega-3 PUFAs in depression, highlighting the challenges in current treatment strategies and the potential role of these essential nutrients in improving patient outcomes. There will then be a discussion on the potential mechanisms underlying the therapeutic effects, including evidence from pre-clinical and clinical studies. This is followed by an explanation of the methodology employed in drafting the statement and a review of the clinical findings and conclusions.
